Brinton 1704 House and Historic Site
Brinton Association of America, Inc. (BAA)

The Brinton Association of America, Inc. (BAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the Brinton family that arrived in Pennsylvania in the late 1600s.  The BAA is seeking a Museum Administrator to oversee the operations of the Brinton 1704 House and 13-acre historic site. The Museum Administrator works closely with the Board of Directors, volunteers, and the seasonal Weekend Coordinator to fulfill the mission of the BAA, and reports to the President of the Board.  The Museum Administrator performs professional work involved in the overall management of a small historic house and site, including day-to-day operations, administrative duties, programmatic implementation and interpretation, as well as assistance with development initiatives.

General Job Description

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Site Management/Curatorial
•	Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Brinton 1704 House.
•	Ensure preservation of the historic house, collections, and grounds through routine cleaning and maintenance of the house museum and office.
•	Direct contracted labor in the care of the property.
•	Assist with collections care, monitoring, and inventory as detailed in the Collections Policy.

Administrative
•	Recruit and maintain volunteers and interns; coordinate schedule and activities of house guides and other volunteers.
•	Maintain a social media presence in conjunction with the Webmaster and Weekend Coordinator.
•	Submit an annual report of attendance and activities in conjunction with the Weekend Coordinator.                                 
•	Respond to and/or refer mail, email and phone communications to appropriate officer or individual.
•	Track visitation and admissions; maintain petty cash.

Development
•	Coordinate with Board Treasurer regarding accounts receivable and payable, including processing donations, membership dues, admissions, museum shop sales and monthly bills.
•	Prepare and mail/email semiannual newsletter, membership renewals, and Annual Appeal.
•	Assist in identifying, writing, and managing grants.
•	Maintain membership database in QuickBooks and PastPerfect 5.0.
•	Make deposits at the bank.
  
Programmatic/Interpretation
•	Provide tours by appointment during week days and off-season.
•	Prepare for and participate in special events; compose and send out event information.
•	Maintain relationships with local historical and cultural organizations, media, and government entities.
•	Conduct research and present information for tours, exhibits, and genealogical information.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Required:
•	B.A. in history, museum studies, public history, or related field, or equivalent experience.
•	A working knowledge of U.S. colonial and pre-revolutionary history.
•	Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
•	Ability to collaborate with Board in developing goals and objectives, to motivate volunteers and interns through teamwork, and to relate to diverse constituencies.   
•	Demonstrated knowledge of museum organization and collections management.
•	Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, grant writing and implementation, membership and donor development.
•	Familiarity with Social Media such as Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, LinkedIn.
•	Familiarity with PastPerfect, QuickBooks, Constant Contact, and Adobe Acrobat.
		
Desirable:
•	Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in museum management is preferred.
•	M.A. in history, museum studies, public history, or related field preferred.
•	Experience in fundraising or development capacity with measurable results.
•	Knowledge of best practices in museum management.

Position is for 10 hours/week throughout the year.   Salary $18-20/hour.
