Wisconsin Dells and California Rare Book School are my last two workshops of 2015. Many ideas are afloat for 2016 but nothing is finalized yet. Let me know if you have any questions or contact the H.H. Bennett studio at the links below for more information. Deadline is approaching rapidly…!
This workshop is being held at the 1875 studio of pioneer landscape photographer H.H. Bennett. You might also know his son Ashley Bennett's work, including the famous 1886 “Jump to Stand Rock” also known as “Leaping the Chasm" — the original negative is housed in the H.H. Bennett studio collection.

Care and Identification of Photographs
Wednesday-Friday, October 21-23, 2015
Photograph conservator Gawain Weaver will lead this 3-day workshop, an introduction to the history, identification, and preservation of photographic materials.
Registration includes:
• 3-day workshop (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. each day)
• 240 page color notebook
• 60x LED handheld microscope
• Lunch each day
• Hotel accommodations at nearby Chula Vista Resort and Waterpark, Wisconsin Dells, $82+ tax per night, one person
Participants will acquire hands-on identification skills and learn practical photograph preservation techniques. Using handheld 60x microscopes and a large set of photographic and photo-mechanical samples, they will learn how a variety of processes were created, why they look the way they do, and how they deteriorate. Knowledge about photographic processes is essential to their preservation and leads to a greater appreciation of the aesthetics and history of photographic prints.
Preservation topics include enclosures, handling guidelines, environmental monitoring, the effects of temperature and relative humidity on collections, and the importance of cold storage for certain photographic materials.
Cost of 3-day program: $625
Advanced registration required by October 5, 2015. Please direct any questions about the workshop to the H.H. Bennett Studio (608-253-3523) or e-mailing [log in to unmask]
