The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City is seeking a summer intern to support its Oral History Project. The project will involve cataloging and researching oral history interviews. Students with experience in oral history or archives management are encouraged to apply. Interns receive a stipend.

ORAL HISTORY PROJECT INTERN – INTREPID SEA, AIR & SPACE MUSEUM
The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum seeks a part-time summer intern to support the Museum’s Oral History Project. The Intrepid Museum collects the stories of those who served on board the historic aircraft carrier Intrepid, as well as those who were associated with other major artifacts at the Museum including the submarine Growler, space shuttle orbiter Enterprise, and the supersonic airliner Concorde.
The Oral History Project Intern’s primary responsibilities will include cataloging and research. This summer’s research will focus on the historic spaces within Intrepid’s island superstructure, including navigation. This position reports to the Museum’s Curator of History and Collections.
Duties and responsibilities may include:
• Cataloging completed oral history interviews
• Transcribing interviews
• Researching future interview subjects
• Researching the historic appearance of spaces within the aircraft carrier Intrepid
• Learning camera operation and interview techniques
Qualifications and Experience:
The Museum seeks recent graduates or current advanced degree students in oral history, museum studies, archives management or a relevant subject. Cataloging experience is highly desired. Experience working with oral histories is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Summer internship program is for a 10 week period beginning Monday, June 13th – Friday, August 19th, paid through a stipend.
