SALARY:  $18.87 - $29.26 Hourly
$39,249.60 - $60,860.80 Annually

DESCRIPTION: 
 
Performs responsible professional work in developing and implementing educational programs and activities at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center with an emphasis on arts, history and multicultural programming. Coordinates activities and programs of the Cary Heritage Museum. Coordinates Town participation in selected special events, including Kwanzaa and Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrations.

Note:  Expected hiring range is $39,250 - $48,214 (depending on qualifications).
 
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Arts and History Center Supervisor. Exercises supervision over volunteer and other assigned staff. 
  
TYPICAL TASKS:
 
Assists in coordination and development of a wide range of arts and history programs, special activities and events at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center;
 
Develops curriculum and educational materials and coordinates volunteer opportunities for the Cary Heritage Museum;
 
With Center Supervisor, organizes, establishes and coordinates the program schedule, program staffing, program brochure development and associated registration procedures;
 
Trains staff in interpretation techniques for historical programs;
 
Assists with purchasing educational supplies for the Center;
 
Assists with development of goals and objectives for the Center;
 
Documents all assigned program information and tracks participation, fees and related data;
 
Recruits, trains, and supervises assigned program volunteers;
 
Coordinates Town participation in selected multi-cultural programming and special events, such as Cary Kwanzaa and MLK, Jr. DreamFest activities; coordinates all aspects of a variety of cultural festivals and special events;
 
Provides support for Friends of Page-Walker;
 
Plans and oversees all aspects of the Starlight Concert series;
 
Coordinates school groups visits to Page-Walker;
 
Acts in the absence of Center Supervisor as required;
 
Assists with on-going, routine operation and management of the facility;
 
Schedules and manages courses and instructors;
 
Provides information to the public regarding programs and facilities;
 
Represents the Town at special events;
 
Serves as the Town’s liaison with external cultural groups; provides groups with meeting and event space; attends group meetings throughout the year;
 
Performs other job-related tasks as required. 
  
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
 
General knowledge of arts and history programming; general knowledge of history museum management and programming; general knowledge of computer software related to work such as MS Office suite of products; ability to organize a variety of classes for children and adults, with emphasis on history and heritage programming; ability to adhere to program standards, policies and regulations and to enforce appropriate discipline; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to maintain effective working relationships with Town staff; ability to perform administrative tasks to include budget planning, preparation and maintenance of records and staff recruitment and evaluation; ability to express directions clearly and to deal tactfully with the public. 
  
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in arts management, museum administration, history, or related field and some administrative experience in an arts and/or history center.
 

Possession of a valid appropriate driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle record. 
 
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
