The Lake County Historical Society (LCHS) in Lake County, Ohio is seeking resumes and cover letters for the position of the organization's Executive Director to replace our current Executive Director who is retiring at the end of the year after over a decade of service. 

LCHS owns and operates the Lake County History Learning Center in Painesville Township, Ohio, which serves as the repository for Lake County information and artifacts, a community meeting place, and an education facility for both youth and adults on local, state, and national history. LCHS operates with approximately a $225,000 annual budget, 2-4 full time staff, 4-6 part time staff, and a host of volunteers which keep the History Learning Center operational. The LCHS Board of Directors oversees the organization and the Executive Director reports directly to the Board through the Board’s Executive Committee. 

The Executive Director is responsible for the general management, operation, educational programming, and strategic direction of the LCHC.  The Executive Director’s duties include:

 
•	Direct and motivate staff and volunteers in a positive manner 
•	Oversee the daily operation of the Lake County History Center
•	Write grants and conduct other fundraising for LCHS
•	Plan and implement strategic goals 
•	Build and maintain a strong, internal leadership team
•	Assist in the creation of budgets and strategic plans for the organization
•	Oversee LCHS publications (newsletter, annual reports, books, etc.)
•	Develop and implement a marketing plan; issue press releases as needed
 
The following traits are desirable for the ideal Executive Director candidate: 

•	Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
•	Be able to effectively network and build productive relationships with the community, government, and other non-profit organizations
•	Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university 
•	Ability to perform physical tasks
•	Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 
•	Basic knowledge of the history of Lake County, Ohio, the State of Ohio and the Western Reserve;
•	Past museum experience;
•	Familiarity with the Past Perfect Museum management software;
•	Knowledge of and ability to exploit social media;
•	Entrepreneurial attitude/vision/experience;
