The exhibition and subsequent book, "A State of Health: New Jersey's
Medical Heritage" (Rutgers U Press, 2001), devoted lots of attention
to NJ's pharmaceutical industry: the state had the highest
concentration of the world's big pharma companies, and they carried
out major biomedical research.

Your question doesn't specifically address the issues of funding and
ethics. Most of the funding for the State of Health show/book came
from a dozen big companies. I made a point of telling them -- before
they donated -- that history guaranteed them all some (favorable)
mention in the show, but that their donations could not/would not
determine the amount of attention any individual company got. The
scope of their archives and their archivists' help would be much more
important.

One smaller company happened to be half a mile from my house. That
convenience undoubtedly got them a bigger place in the show than a
couple of huge companies that did not give me easy access to their
collections.
