We allow free access to any of our sites for staff and their close family (the member of staff has to be with them). Friends have to pay.

For volunteers after they have been volunteering 4 months and done 60 hours volunteering they get a pass giving free access to all our sites for a year which is renewed if they keep volunteering (volunteers who do less can be given one or more vouchers for free visits). Their family and friends have to pay.

Subject: Re: Guest privileges for staff and off-the-clock volunteer visits

Thank you to those who have responded so far. Please keep it coming if you have a response--I am interested in hearing about as many museums as possible. I will be presenting a "this is what other places do" report at an upcoming staff meeting, and every example helps.

Currently, we don't have a set policy, but there is an expectation that friends and family will pay admission when they visit, and that volunteers will pay admission when they are off-duty. I hope we move to a free or set-number-of-passes solution for staff and stop charging volunteers (or thinking that they should be charged--I'm not sure this ever happens in practice).

I appreciate your collective input,
Emily.
