Executive Director – Montgomery County Historical Society, Crawfordsville,
Indiana



The Montgomery County Historical Society (MCHS) seeks an individual who is
energetic and creative to serve as its Executive Director. This position
requires a strong understanding of museum operations in accordance with the
highest professional, educational, and ethical standards. MCHS is a private,
non-profit organization that maintains three structures on five acres in
downtown Crawfordsville, Ind. Lane Place (1845), the restored home of former
Indiana Senator Henry S. Lane, is open for tours from March 1 to
mid-December. The Speed Cabin (1845) was built by abolitionist John Speed
and served as a refuge during the Underground Railroad movement, and the
Pattison Pavilion (1995) serves as the bandstand for the Montgomery County
Civic Band’s free summer concerts.



The Executive Director manages the day to day operations of the MCHS, guides
innovation and strategic planning, manages the annual budget, sets
professional standards, administers the overall care and preservation of the
structures, supervises the staff and volunteers, and plays a key role in
fundraising and institutional advancement.



Requirements:

·        Knowledge of the museum and/or historic preservation field;

·        Three to five years administrative experience with preference given
to experience in a nonprofit organization, or historical agency;

·        Demonstrated expertise in securing funding (e.g., fundraising,
grant-writing, etc.), and budget development and adherence;

·        Experience in oral communication and interpersonal skills, group
and public speaking, and written communication including social media and
public information;

·        Skills in community outreach and relationship building with both
individuals and organizations;

·        Experience working with a Board of Directors or Trustees;

·        Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in Museum Studies, History,
Public History, Art History or related field; coursework in non-profit or
business related fields a plus; professional experience comparable to above
education considered;

·        Ability to inspire and empower staff, board, community members and
donors, through a collaborative and community-minded approach;

·        Possess a roll-up-your sleeves work ethic and ability to work at
several different tasks simultaneously;

·        Maturity, good judgment, a positive attitude, and a sense of humor;



This is a part-time position (20 hours/week on average over a 12-month
period) with the salary determined on an annual basis.  For a full job
