Executive Director - Rapid City Arts Council
Rapid City, South Dakota

The Rapid City Arts Council is seeking an energetic, experienced and innovative Executive Director to
further it mission and manage its operations which include the region’s premier art center. The Executive
Director position offers an excellent opportunity to lead an established arts organization located in the
beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota. The Rapid City Arts Council is headquartered in the newly
expanded and renovated Dahl Arts Center. The Dahl is a thriving art center dedicated to exhibiting local
and regional art, and is home to 6 galleries, a 280-seat auditorium and 5 classrooms.

Job Description

The Executive Director will supervise and manage a dedicated staff and interact with artists, sponsors,
donors, members and the public. The Executive Director will also work closely with city officials, the
mayor and the city of Rapid City to further the mission of the Rapid City Arts Council and the Dahl Arts
Center. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for the arts and have administrative experience
managing a non-profit organization. He/she will demonstrate a proven track record of grant writing and
fundraising and will have excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills. The Executive
Director reports to the Rapid City Arts Council Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Liaise with city and state government officials and agencies and regional arts organizations to further the mission of
the Rapid City Arts Council

•Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement short and long-term planning and strategies

•Actively participate with the Board and its designated committees on all fundraising activities

•Oversee and manage the development of public relations campaigns, marketing materials, and education
programs

•Establish, maintain and cultivate relations with donors, foundations and other stakeholders/volunteers

•Develop and maintain an aggressive application program for grants

•Maintain and manage organization and departmental budgets

•Develop and implement membership campaigns

•Serve as the principal spokesperson for all of the organization’s programs, activities and events

•Oversee facilities and operational needs of the Dahl Arts Center

•Hire and evaluate employees, manage employee benefits, and other personnel matters concerning the Rapid City
Arts Council staff

Job Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in relevant area preferred or 5 years experience in an art’s related organization.

•Demonstrated track record in soliciting and securing funding for arts

•Minimum of 5 years experience as senior level manager, officer or executive in a non-profit organization

•Exceptional communication and management skills

•Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to manage organizational and departmental budgets

range for the Executive Director salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The
