The University of Denver Museum of Anthropology is seeking a 3/4 time Registrar/NAGPRA Coordinator.

Three-quarter time, 28.12 hours per week
Salary $17.50 - $18.45 / Hour

The NAGPRA Coordinator/Registrar will oversee the University of Denver Museum of Anthropology’s compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), and perform registrarial duties related to collections. The NAGPRA Coordinator/Registrar will have the following essential duties and responsibilities:

NAGPRA Coordinator
• Ensure DUMA is in compliance with NAGPRA regulations
• Respond to tribal inquiries for DUMA collections information; promote DUMA’s collection for tribal research
• Lead museum repatriation activities/efforts
• Coordinate, participate in, and document consultations with Native American tribes
• Research and write grants to fund NAGPRA activities
• Work with National NAGPRA office in publishing Notices of Inventory Completion and Intent to Repatriate
• Notify tribes of DUMA NAGPRA actions, including Federal Register publications
• Maintain NAGPRA museum records including NAGPRA contact database
• Review and revise DUMA NAGPRA policies
• Update museum database with NAGPRA information
• Assist with museum collections management duties and help oversee care of NAGPRA related museum collections
• Monitor NAGPRA budget
• Write NAGPRA annual report
• Present guest lectures on NAGPRA in University classes and other public venues
• Supervise students on NAGPRA related activities

Registrar
• Oversee legal aspects of collection, including accessioning and deaccessioning of collections and monitoring loans
• Maintains permanent collections paperwork.
• Oversees museum collection database with Curator of Collections.
• Participates in DUMA exhibit committee meetings.
• Supervises students and volunteers in museum activities
• Co-teaches course on collections care and management with Curator of Collections
• Attend department meetings
• Other museum related duties as needed

Qualifications
Minimum of a Masters in Anthropology, Museum Studies or related field with knowledge of NAGPRA and experience with its implementation, and knowledge and experience of professional registration methods. Experience working with anthropological and archaeological collections; familiarity with collections databases; experience in grant writing and managing budgets; good communication skills (oral and written); ability and willingness to work collaboratively with representatives from Native American communities, museum staff, faculty, students, and researchers.
