The Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies announces a hands-on, participatory program about digital media activities for transforming learning in informal settings such as museums. The summit will be held June 16 at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Cost: FREE
Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2010
Time: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (program begins at 9:00)

The museum is located on the National Mall at the corner of 7th Street and Independence Avenue SW. The closest Metro station is L’Enfant Plaza (Green, Yellow, Orange, and Blue lines).

This one-day session on digital learning practices features four presentations by university and museum experts. Testimonials from the field will include examples of different kinds of learning games and simulations and the uses of mobile phones in museum settings. Hands-on activities will engage participants in using mobile phones for planning and networking. The day will conclude with discussion of participants’ own technology plans or ideas and the possible modifications they might make for mobile learning.

Target audience: Curators and researchers, exhibit developers, educators, and anyone interested in digital learning.
