Dear Gail: We work with numerous museums and boards of trustees on
strategic and long-range planning and find that the year span of the plan
depends on where the organization is in its life-cycle and the milestones
expected along the way. Is the museum relatively new/young? Is there a
building project on the horizon; or should there be? Has the museum
recently changed focus or will need to respond to new or different
constituents? There was a time when we could cast out plans of 10-15 years.
Given the "new normal" and the state of the industry as well as the world,
we are working more right now on 5 year plans with our clients. Let me know
if I can assist you further. All best, Geri Thomas, President, Thomas &
Associates, Inc., New York and Chicago, www.artstaffing.com.
