Dear Colleagues:
There has been considerable interest in National Museum Associations meeting in Vienna. This is to re-confirm the meeting to be held on Monday, August 20th from 2:30pm to 5pm. If you have not confirmed your attendance, please do so before August 11th to me at [log in to unmask]
The location is the Austrian Museum of Folk Life (Oesterrichisches Museum fuer Volkskund), Laudongesse 15-19, Vienna. Please note this meeting is for National Museums Associations, and not for ICOM National Committees.
Since our meeting time is very short, and given I received a diversity of suggested topics for mutual consideration, I suggest the agenda as follows:
1. Brief reports from each National Museums Association -----please bring a fact sheet on your association (50 copies) and be prepared to talk about your association very briefly----max of 5 minutes. Please highlight key issues only so that you can network with others with similar interests. We do not have the time to get into major issues at this time but I hope the meeting will facilitate such discussions which can continue.
2. Discussion of formalizing WAMO (provisional name only) and to seek Affiliate Organizational status with ICOM. This was proposed by the ICOM Executive to us. This can include establishing a mission and procedures, a list serve among associations for information sharing, electing an executive committee and to meet at each ICOM triennial conference or other times-----other suggestions welcome.
I am excited to meet you at this meeting in Vienna. Have a good flight!!
Sincerely,
John G. McAvity
