What about telling the human story? I don't know what information you have about the pieces, but I could see different groupings such as: these pieces were all wedding gifts, these pieces were all made by the same family, these pieces were all considered "best" pieces (but based on socio-economic levels, "best" is relative), these pieces are "everyday", so on and so forth. This sounds like a fun exhibit, and glassware in and of itself creates a great visual with the right lighting. I'd be interested to know what you eventually decide. Keep us posted!
