Some of the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne have geology
related themes. Especially, Midnight on the Moon (#8), Vacation Under
the Volcano (# 13, Mount Vesuvius), Earthquake in the Early Morning (#
24, San Fransisco Earthquake).

Also the Magic School Bus TV show has a book series that mirrors the TV
episodes. Try The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth, The Magic School
Bus Lost in the Solar System and The Magic School Bus Out of This World:
A Book About Space Rocks.

That should be a good start. These books are geared towards 1st to 5th
grade or so.
