Posted on behalf of Liz Coffey, chair, Association of Moving Image
Archivists (AMIA) awards committee.

Howdy out there,
I don't know about you, but I'm seeing some worry around the water
cooler lately because of these trying financial times. Perhaps your
institution is facing budget problems, maybe some of your co-workers
are feeling a little down, stressed out, unsure of what the future
holds.

This is a great time to sit down and think about your colleagues.

I'm sure there's someone terrific out there you work with, maybe
someone you don't work with but consider a mentor, or perhaps a friend
you think does outstanding work in his or her institution. These
people, who work above and beyond what is expected of them, deserve
some recognition, don't you think?

Here's your chance to put them in the spotlight! There are 4 awards
overseen by AMIA's Award Committee. Maybe your favorite archivist
qualifies for one or two of them. Each award is different, please
look at the details on the AMIA website.
You can easily make your nominations online:
http://amianet.org/events/awards_noms.php

You have A WEEK to get your nominations in. Please email me
directly ([log in to unmask]) if you need an extension past June 30th.

THE DAN AND KATHY LEAB AWARD
The Leab Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a
significant contribution to his or her institution or to the field as
a whole.
Nominees for the Dan and Kathy Leab Award must work in a moving image
archive, or with moving image collections and must have made a
significant contribution to their institution or the field as a whole,
either in the form of notable achievement or special projects, or
through the noteworthy performance of daily tasks carried out over a
long period of time. Nominees need not be AMIA members.

THE MARYANN GOMES AWARD
This is an award you may apply for yourself!
The purpose of this award is to provide funding assistance for
regional archivists to attend the Annual AMIA Conference.
The award provides up to $1,000.00 U.S. to assist with AMIA
conference-related travel expenses. In addition, a complimentary
conference registration, a one-year Individual AMIA membership, and
one pre-conference workshop registration will be included.

About the Association of Moving Image Archivists:
AMIA is a non-profit professional association established to advance
the field of moving image archiving by fostering cooperation among
individuals and organizations concerned with the acquisition,
description, preservation, exhibition and use of moving image
materials.

AMIA's members range from those who work solely with moving images to
organizations where moving images are only a small part of their
collection to individuals who want to protect their personal
collection - home movies or small gauge or video - to film buffs
concerned with losing our visual heritage.
