AAM's forthcoming "2009 Museum Financial Information" report will include that information, with breakouts by discipline, budget size, and region. The median figure, for all museums in our 2008 survey sample, is 50% (= personnel expenses as percentage of total operating expenses).  

The full report will be published next month.

Hello Everyone,

Our board is interested in finding out how much of the overall
budget should be devoted to staff salaries. 
They are interested in hearing the percentage that other museums and
nonprofits allocate for their staff's salaries.

Would anyone be willing to share what percentage of their
budget is devoted to staff salaries?
