Wax is extremely stable.  It has survived thousands of years with very little change in its properties.  If only most other conservation materials had that kind of track history!  I would not worry at all about the next disassembly in 20 years or even 100 years.  I might lean toward beeswax for this specific application to wood, rather than to metal, as it is a bit softer.  If you want to send me a picture off-list, I would be glad to see if I can refine my response.
