EdCom seeks proposals for AAM 2010. The theme is Museum Without Borders scheduled for May 23 - 27, 2010 in Los Angeles, CA. There is a new process this year - Online – for all session proposals. Make sure you check the EdCom box to be
considered for EdCom endorsement. A few reminders as you start the process.

1. Theme: Visit AAM’s website to find out more about this year’s theme. http://www.aam-us.org/am10/ A two page document outlines the salient questions being asked at the conference and will help inspire relevant conference proposals.

2.Timeline: If you are interested in seeking SPC endorsement, proposals must be submitted no later than July 10, 2009. While endorsement is not necessary to make it into the final program, there is advantage and value to an SPC review and endorsement.

NOTE!!! The proposal submittal process is all online this year. All proposals, whether seeking endorsement or not, must be submitted on-line. AAM has made it extremely easy. Visit the AAM website, click on the annual meeting link, click on Annual meeting 2010, then follow instructions. For help, visit http://www.learningtimes.net/aamarchive0001 for an audio tutorial which will walk you through the new process. Please note: The online form does not have spell check or formatting options and there are size limits to most description fields. AAM suggests that you type your proposal in Word, run spell check and make any formatting changes (like bold, italics or underlines) there. You can then copy and paste in to the appropriate section of the proposal form.

For those seeking EdCom endorsement remember to check off the box marked EdCom. This will ensure that it gets into EdCom hands for review.

Your proposal will be reviewed by an EdCom review committee and evaluated against criteria established by AAM. A reminder, this is a competitive process. Well written, well formulated proposals have a distinct advantage. If your proposal receives endorsement you will be notified by mid August, 2009.

If your session is not endorsed, Chairs will be notified at this time. Chairs, if they choose, can refine and re-submit to the at large deadline.

The at large deadline for all session proposals is August 31, 2009.

3. Developing Sessions: Do you have an idea for a session? Are you trying to find interested colleagues? Use your EdCom board and interested membership! This is probably the best way to get started. Direct initial queries and ideas to me, Heather Nielsen at [log in to unmask] I will connect you with EdCom colleagues who can make suggestions, help find panelists, refine ideas.

Finally, remember that AAM is always looking for new presentation formats, beyond the typical panel. Mine your 2009 conference notes and think about things that worked and things that didn't.

Please don't hesitate to ask if there is anything I or the EdCom board can help with. Looking forward to working with you.

Regards, Heather Nielsen, Vice Chair, Programs, EdCom
