Marianne,
I can understand not having the security guard at the front desk, but  
I would agree with a monitor at the front desk visible to show people  
that there is security.  We don't have a security guard but we do have  
monitors at the front desk and at in the offices to allow everyone to  
see where visitors are in the museum and when they are coming and going.
