Speaking from a north-of-the-border perspective... I am glad to hear that
there is encouragement to vote, Tim. I wish we did speak up more about the
Canadian electoral process. If we were more active politically, I think that
the Conservatives would not be able to make the cuts to funding they have
progressively made over time. Hopefully, the activity in the electoral
process anticipated in the US will eventually spill over the 49th parallel.
Our voting record is abysmal!

I am glad to see political discussions, since the work of museums is
ultimately political in nature. Perhaps by discussing how the political
process impacts museums, we can learn from each other. Recently I went to
the AASLH Conference in Rochester NY... there is much we can learn from our
American Cousins about greasing the political wheel to accomplish our
missions.

Vote on, US! Let's keep the door open to exchange and shared perspectives!

I'd like to echo Deb's comments that this thread is not appropriate for a
Museum discussion list that enjoys International subscription. Please,
American cousins, exercise your franchise if you are able to do so, but
please, keep the traffic on this list museum-related.

I don't recall any mention of Canada's recent federal election on this list,
nor discussion of elections in any number of other democracies around the
world. Let's keep it that way.

Dearest members, please let us remember that this is an INTERNATIONAL
list, and to my knowledge, only one country is holding elections
today. While voting is an important right for anyone regardless of
nationality or location, I think it is extrememly off-topic for this
list and urge people to save their encouragement to vote for more
relevant venues of discussion.

Respectfully,

Deb Fuller
