I am pleased to announce a vacancy in the Collections Department of the Pink Palace Museum, Memphis, Tennessee.   This position is an entry level position entitled MUSEUM SPECIALIST. JOB TITLE: Museum Specialist (JOB Number 08-166) 

LOCATION: Collections Department, Pink Palace Museum, Memphis, Tennessee

BENEFITS PROVIDED BY GRANT AGENCY
Annual Salary: $30,617.60 - $45,614.40
Bi-Weekly:      $1,177.60 - $1,754.40

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of the Museum Collections Manager.  Assists with acquisitions; maintains cultural and natural history collections through registration, organization, conservation, and curation.  Catalogs, preserves, stores and evaluates museum objects according to professional standards.  Researches database of collection pieces, retrieves and provides relevant information and artifacts for exhibits and education programs. Assists with exhibit research development and design including installation of exhibits. Assists with the development of classroom and lab programs. Visits museum facilities to inspect and evaluate collection items.  Creates and compiles reports utilizing various Microsoft applications.  

OTHER FUNCTIONS: 
1.   Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Anthropology, History, Geology, Biology or related field and one (1) year professional experience in museum collection management; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions.  Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license. (PROOF OF EDUCATION/DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIRED)

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires ability to perform manual work which will involve climbing ladders and stairs, pushing carts, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.  Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone.  Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing with general public, management, and staff.  Requires ability to operate automobile to make onsite visits to various museum facilities and museum-related meeting sites.  

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment which involves extensive contact with the public and staff.  Some outdoor work is required when working at the various facilities associated with the Museum.  Requires evening and weekend work for special events and promotions at the museum facilities.  May be exposed to various weather conditions.
