JOB SUMMARY:

This position is located within the Division of Cultural Resources and
Museum Management at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in San
Francisco, CA.
MAJOR DUTIES:
The incumbent performs technical and specialized curatorial support work
for the management of a large and diverse collection of maritime artifacts.
Catalogs objects in the museum collection and enters data into database
(ANCS+) according to NPS and in-house guidelines, and conducts research as
necessary to properly identify, classify, and describe objects.
Photographs objects and imports images into ANCS+. Maintains and improves
integrity of museum collection data. Prepares inventories of objects.
Assists in completion of collection management reports. Cleans and
prepares objects for storage. Organizes collections in storage, on
shelves, in cabinets, on pallets and pallet racks, utilizing industrial
materials handling equipment as appropriate. Assists in moving collections
between facilities and within storage areas. Provides routine cleaning and
monitoring of artifacts in storage and exhibition spaces. Provides access
to the museum collection for outside researchers and park staff. Answers
inquiries regarding the museum collection by telephone, letter, email and
in person.
Requirements:
Must be physically able to lift heavy (up to 50 lbs.) and awkward
objects
Must be physically able to climb step-ladder.
Must be able to operate motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's
license.
Must be able to operate genie-lift and pallet-jack (with training
provided).
Must become certified to operate fork-lift (training provided).

National Historical Park includes a fleet of national historic landmark
vessels at Hyde Street Pier, a visitor center, a maritime museum, and a
library/research facility. Visitors board turn-of-the-century ships, tour
the museum and learn traditional arts like boatbuilding and woodworking and
learn more about the nation's maritime heritage. San Francisco Maritime
