Hi Micki,

We have held "appraisal days" almost each year either in the summer or
around the holidays and they have been very well attended. We get two
generalists from a Boston appraisal/auction firm and they charge a fee
and then we charge the public $10 per item, $25 for three items and
encourage them to call to make an appointment. The appointments are
every 15 minutes and we run the program from 9am to 3pm. This is not a
huge money-maker, but people in the community come to depend on us to
offer this service, it brings people to the Museum, it's great fun to
see what people bring in, and sometimes they decide to donate items to
the Museum too. Plus, if someone sends their items back with the
appraisers to be sold at auction, the Museum gets a "finder's fee" when
each item sells.

If you would like more info about how this program runs, please let me
know and I'll get you in touch with our development staff.

Appraisal Days are fun!!
