Public Invited to the National Museum and Library Services Board Meeting
April 16 in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC--The public is invited to attend the April 16 meeting of
the National Museum and Library Services Board (NMLSB) from 12:30 pm to
3:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room at the Phoenix Park Hotel (2nd floor, 520
N Capitol Street, NW, Washington, D.C.).

The legislative process as it relates to museums and libraries is the
subject of the 14th meeting of the NMLSB, the policy advisory board for
the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

At 12:30, the board and other interested parties will hear from a panel
of congressional staff members about the legislative process and issues
related to museums and libraries. Panelists will include:

* Adrienne Hallett, Professional Staff Member on the Senate
Appropriations Committee (Majority);

* Lori Groves Rowley, Chief of Staff to Representative Ralph Regula
(R-OH-16);

* Ilyse Schuman, Minority Staff Director and Chief Counsel on the Senate
HELP Committee; and

* Elyse Wasch, Legislative Director to Senator Jack Reed (D-RI).

At 1:30, Judy Schneider, a Specialist on the Congress at the
Congressional Research Service (CRS) and an adjunct scholar at the
Brookings Institution Center for Public Policy Education, will give a
presentation on the workings of Congress. Prior to joining CRS in 1979,
Schneider served as research coordinator for the Senate Ethics
Committee's Korean investigation, and as a professional staff member of
the Senate Select Committee to Study the Senate Committee System and the
House Commission on Administrative Review. She is the author of over 100
papers on congressional organization and operations, and the co-author
of the Congressional Deskbook, published by TheCapitol.Net in June 2000,
now in its fourth edition. Schneider serves on the faculty of the
Conference for New Members of Congress. She was selected as a Stennis
Fellow during the 108th Congress, and received the Women in Government
Relations Distinguished Member Award in 2004. She has a BA and MA from
American University and has done additional graduate work at the Hebrew
University in Jerusalem, Israel.
