We are considering signing a contract with a firm specializing in recovery and restoration. Then legal paperwork would be in place, the firm will have designed several possible scenarios, and be prepared for an emergency on site. The firm would be able to handle bulk. We hope to avoid a scenario in which it could take a day or more to handle the paperwork, get a purchase order, etc., and time means more cost for processing as well as more damage. The firm only handles one type of material, so we would have to contract with at least one other firm to cover all materials in our collection (paintings and their frames, works on paper, textiles, metalwork).

Do any of you have such an arrangement, and if so, which firms would you recommend and what are their areas of expertise?

If you prefer to contract with individual conservators should an emergency arise, what benefit do you see in this scenario as opposed to working with a large firm?
