POSITION TITLE: COLLEGE & SPECIAL COLLECTIONS ARCHIVIST

__*_APPLICATION PROCEDURE_*: Navarro College is seeking applications for 
a College & Special Collections Archivist. Interested applicants should

*_GENERAL DESCRIPTION_**: * The College & Special Collections Archivist 
is responsible for managing and coordinating the daily work in the 
archives area of the Pearce Collections Museum. Those responsibilities 
include management and coordination of the Pearce Civil War Collection, 
as well as all college archives, photographs, written and oral local 
histories, and college subject files.

*GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:*

    * Assists with the acquisition, appraisal, and transfer of archival
      collections to the repository.
    * Provides reference services relating to archives and participates
      in bibliographic instruction when necessary.
    * Directs and reviews processing of archival materials including the
      arrangement, description, and preservation of materials according
      to accepted professional standards.
    * Creates finding aids and catalog descriptions using the MARC format.
    * Creates and/or updates PastPerfect collection records.
    * Implements long-range preservation of and access to archival
      collections.
    * Implements projects for digitizing and providing electronic access
      to archival materials.
    * Assists with and contributes to Pearce Civil War Collection and
      archives websites.
    * Contributes to preparation and implementation of exhibits.
    * Trains and supervises part-time student workers and graduate
      student interns.
    * Assists with the development and coordination of policies and
      procedures for accessioning, appraisal, processing, and
      preservation of and access to the Pearce Civil War and archives
      collections.
    * Assists with long and short range planning to establish priorities
      and goals for the Pearce Civil War and archives collections.
    * Represents and promotes the archival collections, including the
      Pearce Collections, locally and nationally by speaking at area
      schools, civic clubs, community groups, and other venues including
      professional organizations like the American Association of
      Museums and the Society of American Archivists.
    * Serves as a member of the Navarro College faculty and serves on
      College committees and attends meetings of Foundation Board or
      College Board as requested.
    * Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the director in his/her
      absence, or as requested.

*_REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:_
*

    * Ability to communicate orally and in writing to a wide range of
      audiences, including the college community (faculty and students),
      researchers, and the general public.
    * Thorough knowledge of archival theory, methods, and practices.
    * Demonstrated ability to complete projects within a limited time frame.
    * A student and visitor centered and service oriented philosophy.
    * Experience using a personal computer or microcomputer; knowledge
      of computer applications such as PastPerfect, Microsoft Word, Word
      Perfect, Microsoft Excel, Filemaker Pro, and other general use
      software packages; knowledge of HTML, MARC, and EAD.
    * Ability to lift and move materials found within the collections.

*_ REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:_
*

One of the following educational credentials is required:

    * Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
      institution with concentration in Archival Studies, or

    * Master’s degree in Archival or Museum Studies

    * Formal archival training and/or experience.

    * Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists***

*_WORKING CONDITIONS:
_*

    * Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill
      the responsibilities of the position.

*_SALARY_**:* Commensurate with education and work experience.

suitable candidate is found.

*_FRINGE BENEFITS_**:* Navarro College participates in the State of 
Texas insurance program. Under the State of Texas insurance program, 
Navarro College, like all other Texas colleges, participates in a 
three-month (3) waiting period before an employee is eligible for 
medical benefits. Other health benefits are effectively immediately upon 
employment.

Navarro College also participates in the Texas Teacher Retirement System 
(TRS), and Optional Retirement Program (ORP). These benefits are 
available upon full-time employment. Full-time employees also have the 
option of joining the Navarro College Retirement Plan after one year of 
service. Full-time employees may apply for tuition and fee grants equal 
to Texas public institutional rates to pursue higher education at any 
level. Family members are eligible for tuition reduction at Navarro 
College.
