I do not know of many cities that offers so many places to visit as NYC.
And if you come to New York, you must visit the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum,
one of the city's truly hidden gems. Located on East 61st Street in the
heart of Manhattan, the Museum’s building is one of New York City’s oldest
structures and dates from 1799, when it was constructed as a carriage house
on Mount Vernon, a large country estate situated along the East River.

Today, the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum (MVHM) presents the period from 1826 to
1833 when the Mount Vernon Hotel, a popular country resort, was in
operation. The Hotel offered a welcome retreat for New Yorkers seeking an
escape from the crowded and polluted city below 14th Street. In the early
19th century, visitors could take the stagecoach or steamboat up to 61st
Street and spend the day at the hotel sipping lemonade in the ladies’ parlor
or playing cards in the gentlemen’s tavern.

Visitors come to the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum today for many of the same
reasons they did almost two hundred years ago. Our beautifully decorated
period rooms and charming garden offer a unique escape from the city right
in the heart of the Upper East Side.

What's more with a museum id card, your admission will be free not only to
our museum but to other NYC museums as well!

Best wishes and hope you can visit us,
