Full Job Details: The Holocaust Centre wishes to recruit an Assistant to 
the Project Manager owing to the development of a new project, The 
Journey. The Assistant will be responsible for fully supporting the 
Project Manager- aiding them in the successful development, delivery 
and interpretation of this new project. The Assistant will provide 
effective administrative support to ensure the smooth running of The 
Journey. 


The Journey is a new permanent exhibition being aimed at younger 
children and will tell the moving and tragic story of children who 
experienced the rise of National Socialism in an accessible and 
approachable way. It will focus on a group of young Jewish children 
living in Nazi occupied Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. Each child has 
their own unique story to tell and their stories will take younger 
visitors on a journey back into their homes, their classrooms, their 
streets, on trains, in hiding and into camps, before eventually reaching 
their ultimate destinations of refuge and survival.


The Journey is the journey of the children who lived through the 
Holocaust and survived.  It is the journey of the children who visit and 
learn. It is a journey through the choices that face us in life.  


The post holder must have a professional and welcoming disposition 
and a pleasant telephone manner. Good organisational and 
communication skills are essential as is the ability to work to tight 
deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail. As there will be a need 
to communicate with a wide variety of sectors, the post holder must 
represent the organisation in a professional and competent manner.

managing the conservation of artefacts. The Heritage Officer will also 
create and implement collections policies.

approachable way. It will focus on a group of young Jewish children

to work to tight deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.

Situated in North Nottinghamshire, the Holocaust Centre is the UK’s 
first Centre dedicated to the remembrance of the Holocaust. The 
Centre aims to confront issues raised by the Holocaust and other 
genocides; every day, over 100 people participate in programmes 
which seek to reduce racism and other forms of prejudice, and to 
promote tolerance and social inclusion. 


We are looking for a front of house manager to develop and manage 
effective retail sales and information desk at the Centre.  You will be 
responsible for running a profitable and sustainable on-site café and 
bookshop, delivering on a challenging commercial plan. Reporting 
directly to the Holocaust Centre Director, this role requires an 
experienced, driven and innovative individual whom can multi task 
across the varying functions. 


Responsibilities include:  


* Using retail experience and initiative to develop the café and 
bookshop
* Continuous management of products and menus
* Managing front of house staff and, where necessary, volunteers
* Responsibility for health and safety and hygiene standards
* Continuous monitoring and reporting of all sales statistics, driving 
and following through on actions for change where appropriate
* Key interface with senior managers to develop an attractive, cost 
effective and profitable service for various groups requiring catering on 
site
* Responsibility for all receipts, purchases and financial reporting in all 
retail areas 


Specific knowledge and skills required include:


* Experience in retail and or catering
* Experience in visitor attractions or the hotel industry will be viewed 
favourably
* Excellent administrative skills, with at least one year management 
experience
* High level of competence in ICT, and some finance skill desirable
* Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with a wide variety 
of contacts
* Excellent planning and organisational skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to work well as part of a team
