About Sharlot Hall Museum

The Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, Arizona is a private-public partnership
that has served as a major historical organization since 1928. Over the past
three years the Museum’s board of directors and nearly two dozen staff
members have been engaged in a major expansion and revitalization of the
nearly 4 acre campus with resources for a successful Phase 1 capital
campaign. The Museum now seeks a dynamic development officer/grant writer to
oversee the planning, development, coordination, direction, and management
of all development, membership, and general marketing efforts to proceed
with implementing Phase 2 and 3 of the Museum’s evolving strategic plan. 

Essential Duties 

The development officer is a key member of the senior management team and
reports to the Museum’s executive director. He/she will work closely with
and provide leadership for the Museum’s board members and volunteers and
supervises development, membership, and the marketing personnel. The
successful candidate will have the ability to represent Sharlot all Museum
effectively and articulate its mission to diverse constituencies. Major
duties include researching funding opportunities and drafting proposals and
strategies for submission to prospective donors and granting organizations
including individuals, private organizations, and federal, state, and local
governments; coordination with museum staff, board, and volunteers to
fulfill development goals and provide member programs and services, as well
as ensure general marketing efforts designed to promote community support
and broad public awareness of the Museum’s regional educational and economic
impact. 

Position Description

A. Works with the executive director, the board of trustees, and supporting
staff and volunteers, responsible for managing all aspects of the capital
and endowment campaign securing major support from individuals and
coordinating major support from government, corporations, individuals, and
foundations. Serves as campaign director and implements all phases of the
project. Prepares and updates overall capital plan that includes the
strategies, case for support, volunteer organization, systems and management
structure for engaging community and raising major gifts for the campaign.
Provides support for the executive director, campaign chairs, committee
members, and other volunteer campaign leadership as well as the board of
trustees.  Provides strategic support for executive director and senior
staff in their roles in the campaign. Leads, manages, and directs the
Capital Campaign volunteer and staff team as it seeks to raise major current
and deferred gifts for endowment and facilities. Oversees development and
preparation of campaign reporting systems, campaign management reports,
campaign milestones, campaign prospect tracking, campaign budget, and
related elements including creation of campaign correspondence and relevant
files/databases. Develops and coordinates content, design, and publication
of campaign collateral materials (case statement, ways of giving, donor
recognition pieces, campaign invitations, campaign newsletter, final
campaign reports and like requirements) and advice on campaign public
relations and external communications. Maintains community, statewide, and
national contacts. Identifies, researches and produces government,
individual, corporate and foundation grant proposals. Identifies,
researches, cultivates, manages, and tracks campaign and major donor
prospects, develop strategies for engagement and assists with solicitation.
Works closely with all other museum staff including development and
communications staff. Oversees the creation and implementation of key
campaign events, cultivation events, anniversary celebrations, kickoff,
celebration, and donor recognition events. Participates in museum-wide event
planning that advances the campaign and the organization’s mission. Oversees
campaign stewardship and collaborate with staff on continuing stewardship
for museum members and donor prospects (approximately 70% of duties).
B. Oversees Museum major/strategic marketing and membership programs, and
supervises personnel (both salaried and volunteer) assigned to these
programs. Serves on Museum marketing and membership committee, and
personally and/or through personnel assigned to these areas carries out
directives and programs established by the committee and approved by the
Museum board of trustees. Participates in strategic planning committee
meetings as required (approximately 30% of duties) 

Qualifications and Experience 

Bachelors degree required; CFRE and continuing education preferred 
A minimum of 5 years direct fundraising and staff management 
A proven track record raising major gifts and meeting fundraising goals and
deadlines 
The ability to effectively manage and motivate board members and volunteers
and to cultivate meaningful relationships with donors and prospects 
Knowledge of marketing and membership in non-profit sector highly desirable
Computer literacy, experience with fundraising database software, project
management, research, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills 
Evening and weekend work will be required as needed with events and activities
A valid Arizona driver’s license will be needed 
Salary (maximum) $35,000 per annum
