Abramovitz Scholarship Mentor
The Palo Alto Art Center’s Foundation is seeking artists to act as mentors for five talented teens who are recipients of the Carrie Abramovitz Scholarship. The Mentorship pays $30.00 per hour, a few hours every month for one or two years. We are looking for accomplished artists who have a high degree of cultural sensitivity and experience with a wide variety of media, especially painting and other 2D media. Selection of mentors will be based on the scholarship recipient’s specific needs and interests.

Qualifications:
· Working professional artist.
· Works well with teens.
· Trustworthy/well-organized/responsible person.
Mentor’s Responsibilities include:
· Meets bi-monthly with recipient.
· Develops and monitors independent projects with recipient.
· Suggests and supervises readings.
· Works with recipient on portfolio development.
· Suggests and Monitors progress in classes and workshops.
· Plans and participates in field trips.
· Assists with recipient participation in final exhibition.
· Monitors scholarship expenditures.
About the Scholarship:
The Carrie Abramovitz Scholarship Fund was established at the Palo Alto Art Center in honor of the memory of Carrie Abramovitz, artist and long time Palo Alto resident. Scholarship selection is based primarily on recognized talent, second on financial need. Scholars are high school sophomores or juniors who live in or attend school in Palo Alto or East Palo Alto. An artist who will serve as a mentor for the candidate will be identified to work with the recipient. The mentor will help direct a course of study will include classes, workshops, field trips, and independent projects. The scholarship will pay for artist mentoring, art classes, field trips, and art supplies for artistically talented young visual artists.

Video Narrative (New)
Learn how to work with digital video, voice/voiceover, and non-linear editing. We will discover the power of video as narrative art. Video recording will be based on the imagery, tempo and action of the narration. One short digital video will be produced as a collaborative effort by the class.
5 classes $124R/$148NR Art Ctr - Art & Tech 12max
10-13 yrs M-F 8/13-8/17 10:15am-12:45pm

We are especially interested in local (Palo Alto vicinity) artists and art educators who specialize in early childhood, language-immersion art classes, tinkering, ceramics, sculpture and people familiar with the home-schooling community.
