I too have worried about the battery in collections issue.  Our radio history 
museum cannot interpret the development of radio without the substantial 
numbers of batteries used, especially in the 1920s and 30s, and yet one hates 
to core and empty a surviving battery to have essentially a cardboard shell.  
Strangely, most of ours are looking solid and stable at 75+ years of age, but I 
would like to hear more discussion on this topic.
