While not exactly a museum, there's a wonderfully funny little scene in
_Madame Bovary_ where Emma Bovary and her lover are at a famous site
(Notre Dame, I think?) and they keep getting harassed by this tour guide
who wants to tell them all of these historical facts when they're really
out in public so they can hide the fact of their affair. 

Very amusing and also a good reminder for guides and interpreters- to be
aware of their audience!
