 CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Confluence & Connections-Museums at the Crossroads

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PROPOSAL SUBMISSION FORM

DEADLINE: MARCH 7, 2007

EMAIL submissions and/or questions to:
Graham Hauck, MAAM Executive Director

Increasing capacity,...embracing new audiences,...adapting new
technologies,...employing best practices,...and competing for dwindling
resources are among the kaleidoscope of challenges and opportunities
faced by the nation's museums. Join your colleagues for the 2007
Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums Annual Meeting to explore these
trends and choices. Come to Pittsburgh and discover how you and your
institution can flourish during these exciting times.

We are looking for session proposals that ask evocative questions and
provide insightful answers; proposals that share good ideas and
practical knowledge. "Connect" with your colleagues in Pittsburgh by
submitting a proposal about current issues relevant to the museum field.

Steel City. Iron City. City of Champions. City of Bridges. City of
Colleges. Whatever Pittsburgh's appellation du jour, this vibrant city
located at the confluence of the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela Rivers
has been widely and justly touted for its economic and cultural
renaissance. The Carnegie Museums, the Frick Museum, the Andy Warhol,
and Pittsburgh Children's Museum and the Historical Society of Western
Pennsylvania are among the world-class institutions that await you when
you attend MAAM's 2007 Annual Meeting.

Ideas for Session Proposals (There is more information in the Proposal
Form):

How do you make the "connections" between your museum and _______ (fill
in the blank)

Administration-How do you connect with your constituents to raise funds
or to recruit new board members? How do you find the best person for
the job? Does your institution "connect" with current museum standards?

Collections Stewardship-Does your collection connect with your
community? How does the public connect to your holdings?
Communications-Does your website connect you with your audience? Does
it provide them with the information they need?
Education/Interpretation-Do your programs connect you with your
community? How does your institution fulfill its educational mission?
Mission-Is your museum's mission still relevant to today's audiences?
Planning-How does your planning process connect to both in-house and
out-of-house resources?
Technology-Remind me again how technology makes my job easier?
