Education Director, National Law Enforcement Museum, Washington, DC.
The National Law Enforcement Museum, a program of the National Law
Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (www.nleomf.org), is presently under
construction with opening in late 2009 or early 2010. We are looking for an
experienced museum educator with extensive knowledge of educational
programming in history museums and or history memorials. The successful
candidate will work with current staff, the exhibition design team, and the
Museum Education Committee to develop a broad education program. Immediate
activities and responsibilities will include developing and testing programs
for the museum: K-12, in school, curriculum-related, family, and adult
programs in the community, at the museum, and at the National Law
Enforcement Officers Memorial. Of particular importance is developing
cooperative educational programs with other museums, national programs such
as National History Day, electronic field trips, and lesson plans.
Qualifications: Masters in Museum Education or comparable experience and a
minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in developing
creative museum programs. The position requires excellent organizational,
interpersonal, public speaking, critical thinking, and writing skills;
knowledge of learning styles and current educational practices; experience
working with school-age and adult audiences; experience creating programs
that connect history with communities; experience with marketing; and a
strong interest in working collaboratively. There is some travel.
Position is contingent upon FY 2007 funds and if funded, will begin on
January 1, 2007. Salary is competitive with generous benefits package. The
