Hello,
I can only speak for CT. Here at the Mashantucket
Pequot Museum we have been intensively researching
Persons of Color serving for CT during the Rev War.
We have not been able to identify anyone of Asian
descent throughout all of the tons of primary and
secondary material we have encountered...but I would
not discount it. So far we have identified nearly 700
African and Native American soldiers, sailors, and
marines, 209 of which are undoubtedly of Native
American ancestry. I bet there may be some
Asian-American vets from RI and MA.
As for the Civil War, in addition to the Filipinos
listed on the website someone cited, there are
possibly up to a dozen identified Asian-American
soldiers fighting in Northern units, and maybe about
that many serving in Southern units. Most notably for
me is Joseph Pierce of Company F, 14th Connecticut
Volunteer Infantry. He fought in every major battle
with the Army of the Potomac from Antietam to
Appomattox. He was also promoted to Corporal in 1864.
Married a white women in 1867 and lived in Middletown
CT for the rest of his years as a silver smith.
Good luck with this fascinating subject,
