The original posted is asking about combining collections, I believe. A comment was made that library OPACs are robust enough for collection management. Although I agree with you that MARC offers a lot of options for cataloging, I ultimately agree than using a library OPAC solely for collection management would be inadequete. You can do great things with MARC, but you just wouldn't have the same interconnected accessioning, the page views, the breadth of detail. The poster is, imho, correct: library software isn't robust enough for collection management.

The purpose of my post was to mention that, at the same time, collection management software, much of which doesn't emply MARC and none of which (to the best of my knowledge) uses Z39.50 technology, isn't, imho, robust enough for library collections.
