We just opened an exhibit celebrating our 20th anniversary—only 20 years--so new in the relative age of natural history museums. One of the best parts is a freestanding backlit display of hundreds of photographs from the last 20 years. There are at least 600 photos displayed, and it is one of the highlights for volunteers as well as visitors. We have a case of memorabilia, dozens of t-shirts line the upper wall, and we divided the twenty years into 5-year blocks. So we have the mission, the beginnings of the museum, and then highlights of each 5-year segment. We do have a timeline in small type along the edge of those panels.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] museum histories
Hello all--
Does anyone have any favorite examples of exhibits that focus on a
museum's history? I have seen some descriptions of a British Museum
exhibit a few years ago but not much else. Websites would be great too.
We are celebrating our 75th and I am working on an exhibit for it.
Im trying to avoid too many timelines...Thanks!
Margaret
