Shaker Heritage Society is attempting to turn a neglected but historically significant County owned site (a National Historic District) into a community asset. Right now the site is a white elephant that happens to be located across the street from an international airport. We gathered representatives of the Town, County, Airport Authority and our board to work together to realize the full potential of the site & just issued RFQ's to develop a master plan for the site. We are also renegotiating our lease with the County.
Are there any models of a public/private partnership that we could look to as we move forward through this process? There's also the issue of years of defered maintenance and the need for on-going maintenance which everyone wants to pass on to someone else. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who may have models, experience & wisdom to share. Thanks,
-Star
