A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY:

Some Rights Reserved: Access to Collections Through Creative Commons

Half day events in London and Edinburgh hosted by MDA

Creative Commons is a new way of making digital resources available
to the public using straightforward, online licences. Recently
launched in the UK, it has the potential to enable museums, libraries
and archives to protect their intellectual property rights, whilst
increasing public access to collections.

So could Creative Commons be the solution to balancing the demands of
public access, rights protection and commercial exploitation? These
MDA hosted events, one in England and one in Scotland, give you the
opportunity to explore this rapidly developing field.

These events will provide:

* Context and key information about Creative Commons
* Case studies exploring the practical application of Creative
Commons licences
* An expert panel to answer questions and debate the issues

Whether you are a policy maker or a practitioner these events will
enable you to work towards best practice in managing the resources
you create, for the public benefit and for your organisation.

London, 15 May 2006 at the Women's Library, Aldgate
Edinburgh event to follow in early June

Places for this event are limited (50.00 UKP for MDA members and
Museum Copyright Group members; 70.00 UKP non-members). MDA will
email details of agenda and speakers shortly. To register your
interest, contact Eleanor Lovegrove, MDA Marketing Officer on 01223
