Hi Rebecca,

the Ulrich replaced its printed mailing completely with an e-newletter
about two years ago. It has really helped keep costs down, in both printing
and postage. It also makes it easier for us to track certain things, and
allows visitors to sign up or become members remotely. One of the downsides
is that we lose contact with some members who are not proponents of the
digital age. i.e. no e-mail. Our newsletter now goes out every other month,
with occasional special announcements.

We still do traditional mailings of exhibition brochures, annual calendars,
and special events materials, so the non-hooked-in still get some stuff
from us.

Overall it has been a great benefit to us and our outreach efforts.

Our institution is considering creating an eNewsletter of our education
programs to teachers and families. We are a small institution (4 full
time, 1 part time staff). I am considering the eNewsletter as a low cost
format to advertise our school and family programming, to be sent out
twice a year supplementing our printed brochure. What are some benefits,
weaknesses and considerations of an eNewsletter format for an institution
our size?

Thank you-

Rebecca Lawrence
