Today, across the US, massive protests are planned in
the name of immigrant rights. Two blocks from my
office in Downtown LA, a huge protest march has been
planned for the noon hour that is expected to obstruct
and impede traffic for hours, and a second major
protest is planned for the four o'clock hour at the
historic MacArthur Park. A number of industries have
shut down in anticipation of the impacts on the
workforces. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has asked that
protestors not disrespect American traditions by
waving other flags or singing the anthem in a language
other than English.

Way across the US, my significant, a retired Tampa
police man, now in the reserves, has been called into
duty, and the police are on alert for protests planned
there. I won't go into details, but the police are
preparing for veritably any contingency as both sides
of the immigration battle line the fray.

In protests earlier this year, young people walked on
the busy LA freeways and obstructed traffic. Other
forms of disruption were noted.

With that as the background, are any of you taking
preventative measures to protect your institutions and
their treasures today? Understand that most of the
protesters are expected to be peaceful and just there
to express their position, but there's always the
potential frenzy factor, those whose angst, rage, or
excitement levels drive them into less than desirable
actions.

Have you elicited extra security, is it simply
business as usual, if you've closed today and wouldn't
normally be closed on Monday, why, and what other
steps might you have taken to ensure that there is no
harm to your institution?
