Perhaps the problem is that the docents don't see why the public shouldn't
get to see everywhere?
"It's private" and "the public are not allowed in there" are not sould
reasons (unless "private" means "not owned and/or managed by us" or "let to
a tenant" or some such. As a Devils/Docent's advocate, ask:
Is there any way a light-sensitive room or contents _could_ be shown?
What's wrong with showing a room before or during restauration? (At Cartes
Grove - Colonial Williamsburg, I think, I saw a room which was "set" during
the restauration and was more interesting than virtoally any other in the
main building.
What's wrong with showing the public the curator's office? (At the first
Yorvik in York, UK, an archaeolgy finds hut was lovingly created for the
visitors to look at)
Having the docents en masse come up with the answers to the questions may
help them to "own" the answers, and act upon them.
Cheers,
Pat
