Check info on the Gulf Coast area. There was an early settlement there.
The Spanish brought people, mostly men, from the Philippines on ships
to help transport goods across land to ships on the Atlantic side. Some
of them jumped ship. We had an exhibit on the Philippines some time ago
and this info has stuck with me. I am not an historian so I may be way
off. Hope not.
