This list sometimes reminds me of watching a bunch of
cats in repose. One eye open, waiting for
someone--anyone--to cross the imaginary line, and then
whack with little or no regard for the feelings of
other members of the group. A simple request for "how
does your museum" blah blah blah has gotten twisted
upside down, and inside out, with some of you swatting
at others.

So let's back up at a tad, and look at the word
"holiday". If you wish someone "Happy Holidays," what
are you really saying:

holiday
O.E. haligdæg, from halig "holy" + dæg "day;" in 14c.
meaning both "religious festival" and "day of
recreation," but pronunciation and sense diverged 16c.

So if you wish someone "Happy Holidays," you're really
wishing them a happy holy day, which ties to religion
of some sort and may just as well annoy someone who
doesn't adhere to that flavor of religion.

If you want to embrace diversity and be sensitive to
the feelings and festivals of others, try this one:

It seems every day is somebody's day of celebration.

My favorite observance is payday!
