Dear Everybody,
With heavy heart, I left a meeting at one of our nation's finest museums
yesterday. I walked through once vital but now empty exhibition areas. I
heard about leaking roofs, work undone, no money for hires--virtually all
of the issues discussed of late on this list on this. Before the meeting, I
left a 4-year college classroom where too many students didn't read news
media and didn't know what the Great Depression was.

My friends, we are in trouble. The distinctive talents and efforts of Gen
X-ers, Y-ers, Boomers, etc., of every color and creed are needed to solve
the problems in education that ultimately affect museums and other cultural
institutions. Absolutely everyone on this list and in this field must have
bread to eat.

I believe that, just as a person who lives in fear and a state of anger
eventually suffers health consequences, Americans are adversely affected by
our war-mindedness, and it comes out in personal attacks on this list and
in just about every other forum I've been witness to lately. Our human,
monetary, and creative resources are increasingly being used to destroy an
endless, unquantifiable enemy and most of us feel the burden.

We are some of the most talented and able people in the world. Let's
appreciate and cherish one another so that we may accomplish the work at
hand.

Rebecca T.
