I would say to check with your state's worker's compensation laws to see
if what they are doing (# hours, working conditions, etc. mainly to
check if they are considered an independent contractor or an employee,
albeit volunteer) fits the statute's definition of a worker who NEEDS to
be covered, and if not, then check with your insurer to see if they are
willing to include them on the policy (and how much extra it will cost
the museum to do so). That is a very generous offer you are
considering.

Subject: Volunteers and Workman's Compensation

Good Morning All,
I have received this inquiry and I thought I would share this with you
all, requesting your thoughts and comments......
1.) Imagine that you have volunteers who are willing to work for free
as
tour guides......
2.) and, your museum would like the volunteers to be covered under
workers' compensation to provide the volunteers with that benefit in the

event of an injury......and also to protect the your museum from tort
liability....
3.) Is this possible and if so, how?
Thanks,
Wesley
