MUSEUMS: SAFEGUARD YOUR COLLECTIONS
The Northeast Document Conservation Center urges museums to take advantage
of
IMLS Conservation Project Support    Application Deadline: October 1, 2005

WHAT IS IMLS CONSERVATION PROJECT SUPPORT (CPS)?
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awards matching grants
to help museums identify conservation priorities and perform activities to
ensure safe-keeping of their collections. Grants of up to $150,000 are
awarded on a 1:1 matching basis. The Northeast Document Conservation Center
urges museums of all types to apply. Your grant project can have an
important impact on the preservation of your museum's collections.

ACTIVITIES ELIGIBLE FOR CONSERVATION PROJECT SUPPORT INCLUDE:
Surveys (general needs assessments, detailed condition reports, or
environmental studies)
Conservation treatment of priority objects or collections
Training of staff in collections care procedures

WHO CAN APPLY?
An eligible museum must be a nonprofit organization that exists for
educational or aesthetic purposes; cares for or owns tangible objects; has
at least one full-time staff member; and is open to provide museum services
to the general public on a regular basis.

HOW CAN THE NORTHEAST DOCUMENT CONSERVATION CENTER (NEDCC) HELP?
NEDCC's experienced conservators will help plan and carry out surveys and
treatment projects. The skilled staff provides estimates, resumes, and other
support documents required by IMLS. NEDCC is the largest nonprofit regional
conservation center in the United States and a premier center for the
preservation of paper-based collections and photographs. NEDCC performs
conservation of paper, photographs, and books, as well as preservation
microfilming and duplication of photographic materials. NEDCC offers a
variety of workshops and conferences on preservation issues.
