Oh Boy... a couple of hours in Auld Reekie is not enough! I agree with
Cheryl Kramer's recommendations (a fellow St Andrean I believe???), but
I don't think that you would have time to see all of that. If you are
really hard-pressed for time, I think the only thing you really can do
is the Royal Mile starting with the Castle built on the old volcano and
walking down the mile toward Holyrood Palace. From the Castle in
particular you have a great view of the landscape and how the site was
chosen centuries ago for defense.

There are a lot of interesting temptations on the walk down the Royal
Mile which I would encourage you to investigate if you have the time -
Gladstone's Land (a 17th Century merchant's home), St Giles Cathedral
and John Knox's house is right on the way...

Don't forget a wee dram to warm your bones.

Best,
Ware

Hi Bob,

I lived in Edinburgh for many years and I used to take visitors to the
Botanic Gradens, which are beautiful. Inverlieth House Gallery is on
the
site, and there iss currently and exhibiotn of the work of Ian Hamilton
Finlay that shouldn't be missed.
http://www.rbge.org.uk/rbge/web/news/exhib.jsp

Also, Finlay's garden, Little Sparta, in the Borders is a real treat; it
takes about an hour to get there (I understand that they will have
shuttle
busses from one of the Galleries in conjunctions witht he exhibitoins in
honor of his 80th).

Just outside of Edinbirgh in the town of Rosslyn is the Rosslyn Chapel,
which is also definitley worth a visit. You can take a bus from the
city
center to Rossyln. http://www.rosslynchapel.org.uk/

In Edinburgh itself, the Fruitmarket Gallery
http://www.fruitmarket.co.uk/
and the Ingleby Gallery http://www.inglebygallery.com/ are always worth
a
visit too.

Hope this helps!
Cheryl
