POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Audience Research Assistant

MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM

Position Summary:
The Audience Research Assistant works with the Audience Research Specialist to plan and implement exhibit evaluation and marketing research at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Audience Research Assistant will work in both the Exhibits and Marketing departments to help plan, collect, enter, analyze and report the results of audience research data. This is a full time temporary position ending October 30, 2005.

Qualifications/Skills:
** A B.A. or B.S., preferably in a field related to audience research (e.g., psychology, education, statistics, etc.)
** An ability to interact with the public, specifically approaching and interviewing visitors about their experiences at the aquarium
** Some previous experience in visitor data collection and/or research (preferably in a museum, zoo or aquarium)
** Basic computer competency (Microsoft Word and Excel) is necessary to perform the tasks related to this position
** Excellent organizational and time management skills
** Strong communication skills, with a focus on describing and presenting research results to in-house staff

Preferred: 
** Someone who has obtained or is currently working towards a M.S. or M.A., preferably in a related field 
** Familiarity with survey and research design
** Knowledge of the current methods used in visitor studies and/or marketing research
** Knowledge of SPSS statistical software
** A strong interest in understanding visitors' interest, motivation and behavior
